What a Year It’s Been for AI!

2024 felt like the year AI truly arrived.

What started as a trusty productivity boost evolved into a creative powerhouse, reshaping industries, workflows, and ambitions alike.

From revolutionizing how we create to challenging how we think about ethics and originality, AI wasn’t just a tool... it was the MAIN event.

For me, the journey has been just as transformative.

When I first dipped my toes into AI late last year, I was just looking for productivity hacks to juggle work better.

Fast forward to today?

That curiosity sparked Bytesize Quest Academy (BSQA), a newsletter that's evolved into a thriving side hustle, helping creators navigate the AI wave.

The big bonus is starting to make an income out of this and turning it into a legit side hustle.

2024 wasn't just the year AI showed up – it was the year it showed off!

With that, I thought it will be great to take a moment to reflect on the wild ride that was 2024.

AI’s Journey in 2024: Key Milestones

#1 Video Creation Gets an AI Upgrade

Google Veo 2, OpenAI's Sora, and Runway's Gen-3 Turbo transformed video production.

For example, Runway’s advanced camera controls allowed creators to direct cinematic scenes with precision, while Sora’s storyboard and style presets simplified complex video production workflows.

Now creators can direct cinematic scenes and craft professional content without the traditional heavy lifting. 

#2 Creativity for Everyone

Canva Magic Studio and CapCut turned complex design and editing into smooth, intuitive experiences.

For instance, Canva’s Magic Design provided polished layouts for presentations, while CapCut’s AI editing tools enabled creators to produce professional-looking videos without extensive technical skills.

 Whether you're a marketer, educator, or running a small team, AI became your creative partner.

#3 The Ethics Conversation Heats Up

As AI tools advanced, creators and companies clashed over data usage and intellectual property rights.

The pushback against unauthorized data use—from training AI models to copyright infringement lawsuits—shone a spotlight on the ethical challenges facing the industry.

High-stakes battles like Penguin Random House's copyright stance and The New York Times vs. Perplexity AI pushed us to think harder about data rights and fair practices.
