CATCH OF THE DAY

Unlocking Fun, One Voice at a Time

CapCut's Voice Changer lets you transform any voice into character gold.

Remember our CapCut Text-to-Speech (TTS) tutorial?

While TTS helps you skip recording entirely, Voice Changer lets you get creative with audio you've already recorded.

Think of it as TTS's playful cousin, perfect for when you want to add character to your voiceovers without starting from scratch.

CapCut’s Voice Changer is a creative, cross-platform tool that lets you tweak your audio with quirky effects.

It’s available on the web, desktop, and mobile apps, but for this tutorial, we’re focusing on the web version.

Whether you’re role-playing skits, narrating content, or just adding a humorous twist to your TikToks, this tool can save you time and make your videos stand out.

Imagine using TTS to generate narration for a short film or explainer video, then using Voice Changer to give characters distinct personalities and spice up the narration.

Together, these tools streamline workflows and bring storytelling to life with minimal effort.

Key Insight for Creators

CapCut and ElevenLabs are two of the more well-known tools I’d recommend for creators, but they’re not the only options out there.

There are plenty of similar tools worth exploring, each with its own unique strengths.

When it comes to AI tools, there’s a universal truth: once you’ve mastered one, learning another is a breeze.

The interfaces are often similar (sliders, preview buttons, and effect toggles), so your skills transfer effortlessly.

Whether you're experimenting with CapCut’s fun voice filters or diving into ElevenLabs’ polished voice synthesis, the key is to explore and find what works for your project.

How to Use CapCut’s Voice Changer

I assume you already have an account with CapCut. If not, feel free to get the app from this link.

For this demo, I will be using the web version.

Step 1: Open CapCut:

  • Launch the web version of CapCut.

  • Note: You can do this on the app as well, but most of the voices in the app are locked behind the Pro plan.

Step 2: Access Voice Changer:

  • Click on the Magic Tools section from the left panel.

  • Select Voice Changer from the available options.

  • Alternatively, you can select the tool directly from the home page if it’s visible.

Step 3: Import or Record Audio:

  • Upload your video/audio file or record directly in CapCut.

  • You can only upload a file size up to 50 MB and 15 minutes on the web.

Step 4: Choose a Voice:

  • Browse the available voices and select one that suits your project.

  • Preview each voice to ensure it fits the tone of your video.

  • You may also generate a 5-second preview.

Step 5: Generate and Edit:

  • Once satisfied with your selection, click Generate.

  • The audio file will be created and ready to download.

  • If needed, you can edit the audio further within CapCut’s interface, adding background music or syncing it to your video!

My Thoughts on the Tool

For this demo, I decided to test whether the voice changer has some emotional range. (Read online to listen the samples.)

Despite being under the weather, I recorded myself saying "no" with my most disappointed expression (‘Oscar-worthy’, obviously) and generated a few character voices.

The result?

For the most part, I must say… it’s not too bad!

While you don’t have many options to tweak the output, you can control what you record, and the result is still pretty decent.

What I noticed is that the audio recording might have to be done in a well-treated room.

A slight noise can result in certain voices generating funky artifacts in the audio output.

But overall, it’s a great tool you can still leverage for social media.

Oh!

And in case you are wondering, there is a difference between the web, desktop, and mobile app versions:

  • Web Version:

    • Free voices available but limited compared to the Text-to-Speech tool.

    • Great for experimenting with basic effects without upgrading.

  • Desktop and Mobile Apps:

    • For the Desktop and mobile apps, there doesn’t seem to be a limitation, however…

    • 99% of voice filters and character effects are locked behind the Pro version.

    • The mobile app offers slightly more variety than the desktop version.

CapCut, like many other AI tools, operates on a freemium model.

While the web version offers free voice-changing options, unlocking the full suite of features (especially on desktop and mobile) requires a Pro subscription.

Pro Features: Worth It?

CapCut's Pro version shines when you need polished voice effects for:

  • Role-playing skits

  • Narration for storytelling

  • Dramatic effects in videos

  • Humorous commentary

You can preview each effect with a single click, making it easy to decide which fits your project best.

If you find yourself constantly using the Voice Changer, upgrading to Pro might be a smart move.

Play around with it as well as other functions of CapCut and decide whether the Pro version is for you.

The Final Byte

CapCut’s Voice Changer is a fun, accessible tool for creators who want to spice up their videos without spending hours in post-production.

While it can’t match ElevenLabs for professional-quality narration, it’s perfect for quick, creative edits.

And remember, mastering one tool often makes learning others a breeze… so don’t be afraid to experiment.

Now, go forth and let your disappointed Homer voice be heard!

See you in the next one,
